I am passionat about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). As a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Development from 2014 until 2019 I participated in the annual UN High Level Political Forum on the implementation of the SDGs. Specifically, I work on the goal of an European, legally binding regulation, setting standards for fair supply chains for textile.
The clothes we all are wearing every day, usually has already come a long way before we get to wear them. Unfortunately, many times there are exploitative child labour, wages which do not provide a living wage, unhealthy and dangerous working conditions, environmentally dangerous chemicals, and a waste of resources involved in the production of these clothes.
In April 2019 I was able to push ahead an extensive resolution of the European Parliament, in which a vast majority of the members urged the Commission to take action against these circumstances and to set legally binding standards within the framework of the trade policies of the EU.
Besides a delegation visit to Bangladesh and hearings in the European Parliament, I contributed to formats, such as the Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, the European Development Days, the OECD Forums in Paris on textile and garment supply chains, Fashion Revolution Week in London and Halle (Saale) and conferences from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development.
